Masterpieces of Cave Art & Architecture
Ajanta and Ellora
About the Tour
More than 2000 years ago, a group of people carved out a hillside to make a cave. Then they made another. And another. And another. Hundreds of rock-cut caves were made over the next few centuries, culminating in the jaw-dropping Kailashnatha temple, carved out of a mountain!
Walk into a cave in Ajanta or Ellora today and you can still see the walls come alive with paintings and sculptures made all those hundreds of years ago. You can still feel the walls reverberate with the chanting of monks long gone.
Join us as we travel to these two mesmerising World Heritage Sites and to explore other areas nearby including Aurangabad and Daualtabad fort. We will also visit one of the earliest rock-cut caves in the region, and a site where a coat worn by the Prophet Mohammed is stored, where Aurangzeb lies buried, and where an Ethiopian slave once became a king-maker.
